Upon completion of this series students should be able to:

• Know how to interact with a patient
• Understand what is required for a patient chart
• Identify paperwork required for PSG studies
• Assess a patient and understand their purpose for being in the lab
• Perform proper documentation
• Understand and apply universal precautions
• Follow and identify procedures for known infections
• Understand electrical safety
• Perform proper equipment cleaning and sterilization procedures
• Know and understand amplifiers and instrumentation when conducting a PSG.
• Understand basic electrical principles
• Understand and demonstrate amplifier calibrations
• Identify the 10-20 System and understand site placements.
• Know the placement of electrodes for a routine PSG.
• Identify standard montages used in the sleep lab.
• Understand the purpose of PAP titrations
• Identify various electrodes, their properties and be familiar with their design
• Know useful and proven techniques for proper electrode application
• Identify and troubleshoot various artifacts
• Understand CPAP titration protocols
• Know appropriate calibrations
• Recognize how to differentiate PLMS from artifacts and other types of limb movements

This series has been approved for 4.75 CRCE Contact Hours by the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC).

AARC Continuing Education is also recognized by the BRPT for maintenance of the RPSGT title.
