Course Description

This module covers the history, criteria and definition of arousals. It covers the methods and conclusions involved in developing the scoring criteria of arousals. This module also covers EEG abnormalities that might be seen in a PSG study. It covers the criteria for limb movements and muscle movement. It will also cover what disorders are associated with limb movement while sleeping and possible treatment options. This module also covers cardiac dysrhythmias and ectopy. It will cover the basic waveform seen on EKG reading as it pertains to Polysomnography.

Upon completion of this module students should be able to:

• Understand an arousal and how to identify an arousal on EEG.
• Have a basic understanding of abnormalities seen on EEG
• Have the ability to recognize cardiac dysrhythmias and ectopy
• Recognize movement and the requirements for associated disorders
• Understand what is required for scoring limb movement

The curriculum is not recognized by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) for purposes of AASM facility accreditation.

Those students who have passed the BRPT exam or who are eligible to take the exam under Pathway #2, or those who are enrolled in or graduated from a CAAHEP Program do not need to be enrolled in a module program.
