Course Description

This module covers the criteria and definition of respiratory events such as Apnea and hypopneas. It will also cover the montage channels needed in properly identifying and scoring respiratory events. It also goes cover the three classifications of apneas and the difference between them. This module also covers the prevalence of OSA and who is at risk.

Upon completion of this module students should be able to:

• Have a basic understanding of the technical considerations regarding scoring respiratory events
• Have a basic understanding of structures that block the airway
• Understand the classifications of apnea
• Understand the event duration rules.
• Have the ability to score apneas, hypopneas, RERA’s, hypoventilation, and Cheyne stoke respirations

When the results email prompt comes up upon completing a module it automatically populates into a message that is sent out via this program, but if it is not connected on your computer it will likely sit in an outbox.

You can easily send your results by copying the body of that email (the results) when it populates and paste it into an email going out of the email program you use (Yahoo, MSN, Hotmail, Verizon, Gmail, Outlook Web Access, Etc). Be sure to indicate your name and the module the results are associated with and then send it to info@asa.us.com.

You will receive your Certificate of Completion within a week.

This course awards 1.00 hour of Continuing Education Credit.

The American Sleep and Breathing Academy's online module curriculum has been designated by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) as an alternative educational program for purposes of establishing eligibility to sit for the RPSGT exam. The curriculum is not recognized by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) for purposes of AASM facility accreditation.

Those students who have passed the BRPT exam or who are eligible to take the exam under Pathway #2, or those who are enrolled in or graduated from a CAAHEP Program do not need to be enrolled in a module program.

Continuing Education:
The Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) designates this educational activity
for a maximum of 1 Continuing Sleep Technology Education credits.
Individuals should claim only those credits that he/she actually earned in the educational activity.
