Course description: This class will discuss Central Sleep Apnea, complex apnea, and treatment options. There are several treatment options such as ASV, Oxygen, and carbon dioxide inhalation.
Topic Description: Central sleep apnea is a sleep related breathing disorder where there is a cessation in airflow as well as respiratory effort. Central apnea is a nervous system disorder that occurs when the brain fails to send the proper signal to the muscles that control breathing. Complex sleep apnea is a combination of obstructive apnea and central apnea.
Upon completion of this course student should have a better understanding of:
• What Central sleep apnea is and how it differs from OSA
• ASV and how it works
• The difference in Complex sleep apnea, Central apnea, and Obstructive apnea
• Treatment available and its effectiveness

Continuing Education:
The Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) designates this educational activity
for a maximum of 1 Continuing Sleep Technology Education credits.
Individuals should claim only those credits that he/she actually earned in the educational activity.
